Born out of songs first imagined while recording 1971's Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars ended up as a sort of loose concept album, detailing the misadventures of alien rocker Ziggy Stardust. Opening with the stage-setting "Five Years," the album details an Earth with five years left - and the bisexual alien savior who has come with a message of hope for the remaining human civilization. Through tracks like "Moonage Daydream," "Starman," and "Suffragette City," Bowie detailed a world rebuilt by the power of glam rock. Bowie's message of hope was preserved by the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry in 2017.
